Amy Go Photo bio picture

She keeps going...and going...and going...

Hi there!  I'm  your friendly neighborhood photographer, Amy GO Wilson. I live and work in Overland Park, Kansas...or anywhere else I happen to be.  I'm the mother of three wild hooligans and the wife of an unrepentant computer genius (who makes a fabulous technical assistant!  I love my geek!).  On any given day I have way too much to do, and I love every minute of it.  See, I have trouble sitting still.  Boredom is a bad word.  I like my days packed with activity and good times - the busier, the better. I like to go, go, go!  Having three boys in the house satisfies that requirement, for sure.  Sometimes I feel like I'm in the middle of a carnival-style tornado, and while I'm having a ball, I'm also hanging on for dear life!  They're growing so fast, and there's so much to do...how will I ever enjoy it all?

And that is exactly why I love photography.  In the words of the inimitable Ferris Bueller, 'Life moves pretty fast.  If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you might miss it.'  That's what photography does for me...it lets me stop time and look around.  It allows me to catch a moment as it's speeding by and keep it forever, cutting through the chaos and recording the joy.  Who wouldn't want a little of that?

So, I love to take pictures.  And I love to make new friends.  And that's where you come in.  What moment would you like to catch?  Where can I meet you today?  You pick the spot, the style, the event...you call all the shots!  And then I take them.  Sounds fun, right?  You know it!  C'mon, let's GO!

Ready… Set… GO!

Somersaulting SammyJUMPWell, I never thought I’d have a website.  But here it is and I can’t wait to jump right in!  And I’m so glad you’re joining me.  Since we’re celebrating my debut, this first post is going to be about just having some fun in front of the camera.  Here we go – starring my very own three favorite models (HAH!  They have more trouble sitting still than I do!)

Truth is, they’re not that crazy about traditional poses.  I know, big shocker, right?  But it’s ok with me, because I think the best photos are the ones that find the magic in the moment…and not necessarily the ones with the perfect well-behaved say-cheese smiles. (Although those are nice, too.  And those of you with children who act like THAT in front of the camera should go ahPlaying with fireead and call me now!)Getting the giggles

So instead of begging them to sit still, lots of times I’ll dare them to do something goofy, or challenge them to do something a little risky, or try to catch them when they’re not looking, or when they’re just having a blast being silly.  And there it is – the moment that takes my breath away.

And just when I think I’ll never get a good shot of them all looking at the camera and smiling – at the same time – they give me their full attention, and their biggest grins.  And just like that, it all comes together, like a surprise present you never knew you even wanted.  And it looks like this:

My Beach BoysThanks for the gift, chickens…Mama loves you.  There’s just nobody I have more fun with.  (OK, maybe there are a few nobodies,  And y’all know who you are!) ;)

Hope everybody enjoyed these “humble beginnings” – stay tuned!  There will be more soon!

November 7, 2009 - 1:41 am Louis Roe - I have a recommendation! A lady I know takes her camera to all school, church and other events and takes as many pics as she can of everyone's children. She passes out business card that drive people to her website where you can order the pictures from her or order a disk of all the pictures so you can edit and order them yourself. Some of the parents have even started hiring her to go to birthday parties and other events so they can enjoy the actual events while she takes pictures. The pics are good because their not the typical posed "say cheese" type photos. She is doing a great business. She even sets up her camera at little league games. It's almost become an expectation that she'll be there taking pictures. When she's not everyone is asking where she is! What is even cooler is that she has the ability for us to order fatheads of our kids in action (batting, fielding, etc.). Good luck with your business. Your pictures are good. I guess what you can take from my comment is that when people aren't paying a sitting fee, you can still make money by becoming the photographer everyone relies upon to get good shots they can order.

November 7, 2009 - 2:37 am kwilson13 - GREAT comment and suggestion Louis. I can easily see how this can work and no one in this area is doing that as far as I know.

November 7, 2009 - 3:04 pm Sharon Duncan - Wonderful Amy! I love the not so poised pictures--they tell more of real life than anything else you can get. You go girl--look forward to more.
